Home Hack: folding an empty juice box

29 Jul

To save a little space in your rubbish bin, you can fold empty juice boxes (Liqui-Fruit, Ceres, etc) quite efficiently. Here’s a little guide (credit to my wife) of how to do this (click on the image to load the large version).

Becoming more designy

24 Jul

g-style web designSince Google redesigned their websites recently, I got more interested in minimal web designs. I’m not a designer myself and much prefer programming over design, but suddenly some interest in the field has awoken in me. I’ve decided to jump into the deep end and start working on something. I’ve put it up on Github (g-style), hoping for some good old open source collaboration. Or maybe someone can even make use of it. :)  There’s not much for now, but I plan on adding more over the coming weeks. If you’re interested in design of this kind, check it out, and feel free to suggest improvements or changes. Github is a great place to contribute to other people’s code.

Why Google+ beats Facebook

18 Jul

Google PlusI’ve been on Google+ for less than a week, and already it’s won me over. Here’s why:

  • Circles: sharing content with only certain people and not others is much easier than on Facebook.
  • It’s lightweight, and much faster than Facebook (in terms of page loading times).
  • The ability to follow someone without having to be “Friends” with them.
  • No apps (yup, I *hate* apps on Facebooks).
  • No ads.
Admit it. You are looking for those things too. And if you’re scared that not all your friends are on there, don’t worry. They soon will be. Day by day I’m seeing more of my friends join, and my “Friend” count is increasing very rapidly. So go ahead; take the plunge. You’ll love it.
